Nothing to see here

New Straits Times (Malaysia) 30 April:
The drowning incident off Pengerang in Johor and the arrest of 33 foreigners off Port Klang have confirmed suspicions that Malaysia is a transit point for human trafficking syndicates...

On Sunday, marine authorities nabbed 33 foreigners from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq on a boat off Kuala Langat, some 30km from here. In both incidents, the foreigners had luggage with them and most were carrying huge amounts of money.

Malaysian authorities are probing if both incidents are linked as intelligence reports indicated that the foreigners were on their way to Indonesia before continuing their journey to Australia where they hoped to seek asylum.

New Straits Times, 4 May:
KUALA LUMPUR: A suspected al-Qaeda operative had been working here for more than four years before his cover was blown recently when he was arrested in Germany.

Malaysian authorities are tight-lipped but it is learnt that checks revealed that the suspect moved funds to al-Qaeda, Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)...

A source said the arrest of the German national may be the "tip of the iceberg"."This is not something new. There have been cases of foreign terror suspects working here..." said the source.

Arrested in Germany? Could have been some German guy saying "Australie, du hast es besser", I guess, that inspired them. More likely our social security's reputation travels widely.
