Happy Canada Day

A belated Happy Canada Day to our Canadian readers.

Here are four things a grateful immigrant to this nation might say:

a) Wow, Canada might not be perfect, but it sure beats the Orwellian shithole that I come from. I am very fortunate to be a citizen.

b) Canada is the only nation in the world holding the torch for conservatism at the moment. I sure am proud to be Canadian.

c) I swear if I hear another note of Nickelback...but you know what? This is a wonderful, prosperous nation that opens its arms to the world, and I am fortunate to be part of it.

and then, of course, there is option d)

A search on Wikipedia for the equivalent of "canada day", as in "arab day" throws up the statement that no such day exists. It does provide some tasty options though. The first is...

- The Six Day War

Is that brilliant or what? The gnomes of zurich truly must control teh internets.

Canada is the only thing that stands in the way of Alaska taking over the rest of the USA. At least that's what the rapid bowel evacuations among democrats and their winged-monkey media mates (since Palin apeared on the national scene) would indicate.

Hang on a minute. What about New Zealand? I've been in Wellington for work for the last five months. Nearly every day I get a pleasant surprise from the newspaper. Thing's like "Teachers aides are required to spend their time on literacy and numeracy, not teaching recycling", or "environmental programs cancelled due to lack of demonstrated effectiveness", or best still, the government respose to the GFC is to cut expenditure.
