"An examination will now be carried out to try and determine why the calf was abandoned by its mother" - but not apparently, why he was abandoned by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Sushi all round!
I just don't get why they had to kill the whale.
"Because it was dying anyway?"
and I wish they'd stop calling it euthanasia. Euthanasia is voluntary.
DD...yesterday some well meaning people showed up with an artificial teat and some milk and were kept away by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
No doubt they had virtually no idea and no chance of saving the animal, but at least they were willing to try something. The NPWS prevented them from attempting anything because "they might harm it" - but more likely they were concerned about having others usurp their authority.
Fittingly, having a tent with the NPWS logo on it while they killed the whale(at the above link) was a PR blunder of epic proportions.
Is whale calf "veal"? Suggested wine accompaniment?
When did you lot get your own Esquimaux?
Must be winter there...looks like Alaska. Good thing we're in the midst of global warming, eh?
