So, it turns out that in his quest to paddle to the North Pole, adventurer Lewis Pugh only made it as far as 81 degrees north. Since the North Pole is at 90 degrees north, by my calculations, he was about 1000 kilometres short. In other words, the ice that Lewis said might not exist at the North Pole, existed for the same distance required to travel from Sydney to Brisbane.
Confusingly, Pugh described himself as disappointed, but consoled himself with meals of duck in red wine sauce. Hilariously, a number of schoolchildren around the world were following the expedition on a map.
